On this day in 1909 Minoru won the Derby. Owned by King Edward VII he won 2 classics and won 7 races from 13. His total earnings were over £16,000.
A horse racing game was named after Minoru and was popular between the wars. Sets of the game are classed as an antique now and have sold for £350. The set consisted of 5 lead horses called Minoru, Gou Gou, Miss McGiggles, Game Chick and St Amant. In the 8 horse version of the game Minoru the horses were called Minoru, Grand Parade, Viceroy, Tom Pepper, Jutland, Panther, Royal Bucks and Ho-Ho.
