On this day in 2012 BBC Sport showed horse racing for the final time ahead of Channel 4 taking over as broadcaster of all terrestrial horse racing from the start of 2013.
Then on the same day 3 years later, in 2016, Channel 4 Racing comes to an end after more than 32 years ahead of the transfer of all terrestrial television coverage of the sport to ITV.
On this day in 1887 Sir John Layton Jarvis, English thoroughbred race horse trainer, was born in Newmarket, England (d. 1968). He won 9 x British Classic Races and was 3 x British flat racing Champion Trainer.
Also on this day in 2015, racing from Chelmsford City appeared on Channel 4 Racing for the first time following waterlogging at Chepstow.
